Spreading the Spoken Word: Mormon Tabernacle Choir

When the longest-running broadcast program in the history of radio entered its 75th year on the air, it was only fitting that my team told the world.  The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has recorded its weekly inspirational program Music and the Spoken Word every week since the Hoover administration.  Along the way, the 300-voice choir has helped build bridges between religious groups and their surrounding communities by reaching out to local decision-makers.

As the choir embarked on its most prestigious tour to date, I made sure that community relations remained a top priority.  I helped plan VIP receptions in nine major cities including New York City and Washington, D.C., finding places for senators, civic leaders and Hollywood “A”-list celebrities.

That doesn’t mean we neglected the media – in fact, we landed the choir on the Today show and garnered more than 100 placements on TV and in print.  “America’s Choir” lived up to its nickname by improving public information channels between religious groups and civic leaders. It’s no wonder that everyone from Sting to Barbara Walters to the late Ronald Reagan has endorsed them.
